Unsuccessful Terror Attack

Russian law enforcement bodies felt like they won over terrorism – they repelled a massive attack on the capital city of Kabardino-Balkaria Nalchik. The guerillas, according to the official data suffered greater losses than the enforcement fighters and the local citizens; it is probable that Shamil Basayev was among the eliminated separatists. Experts do not expect either political or cadre consequences of the terrorist attack.

Slap in the face of Russia

Comments of Elena Vorozhtsova, analyst of the Center for Current Politics in Russia:

The decision of Switzerland on extradition of Evgeny Adamov to the USA has political grounds. This decision is an evident slap in the face of Russia. We hoped to drop this case. The Russian authority intended to solve this problem behind the scenes. I think this political decision was made taking into account decrease of Russia’s image in the international community.

Castling-2008

Moscow is full of, at first glance, unbelievable rumours. Allegedly head of the RF Presidential Administration and chairman of Gazprom’s board Dmitry Medvedev is considered as the most probable successor of Vladimir Putin. And after 2008 the head of the state is likely to get Medvedev’s position in the rapidly growing gas (and even oil and gas) corporation. If these rumours come true, the country will face the most fascinating during all its modern history personnel “castling”.

Adamov Case

“We are please with the decision of the Swiss authorities and ready to cooperate with them to facilitate the extradition” – reads the announcement of Pennsylvania Western District Prosecutor Mary Beth Byukennen, which RIA News received after it was informed of the Swiss Federal Judicial Office’s decision to deliver up Adamov to the US and not Russia. The Russian Ministry of Justice has already expressed indignation in relation to this. Anyways, the attorneys of the former Russian nuclear minister have 30 days to lodge a complaint against this decision on the condition that the announcement of the will to do that will be carried forth within five days. So, will the Americans get Adamov?
